Old Illustration Friday: Silent

Standard

An image I created for Illustration Friday awhile ago.  The prompt was Silent.

"Shhhh! She'll never find us..."

I think I’m going to use this one on my next promotional postcard.  What do you think?

  1. This makes me smile, Karen. I like that Bo Peep has lost her sheep because they are HIDING from her. The sheep body positions and facial expressions are nice–especially the seated critter.

The line quality is nice. i like dynamic lines that vary in weight.

The only thing that bothers me a bit is Bo’s placement. Her foot is uncomfortably close to the sheep’s nose. I think making her ever-so-slightly smaller and moving her to the right a smidge would do the trick.

Looking at this piece makes me want to try digital illustration.

  2. I like it, but I think it might benefit from the sky being a gradient (lighter at bottom, darker at top), or at least not a solid tone. Also I wonder if some distant background objects might make the depth pop more (trees, barn, etc) and give it more of an outside feel, even if they’re just silhouettes of said objects. That said, it looks great and I like your characters!

    • Thank you for commenting! The great thing about digital files, is if I do it right, I can go back and change things anytime. 🙂 I should be able to overlay a white to transparent gradient over the section with the sky in it to make the change you suggested. I’m not sure if I’ll add in trees on the horizon or not, but it’s not a bad idea. I think I’ll fiddle with it a bit before I make it a postcard. 🙂
